The Bank of Montreal’s most recent labour market report card ranks the Brantford CMA as having the best labour market in Canada. The ranking is led by The Brantford CMA’s impressive 17% employment growth and complimented by a June unemployment rate of 4.7%, down 1.2% from the same period last year.
BMO’s Senior Economist, Robert Kavcic, notes that “the job gains have been pretty broad across the service sector. Trade, transportation & warehousing, finance and business services have all had strong gains in the past six months or so…there is not one particular outlier.”
“Brantford has seen strong growth in the manufacturing and building construction sectors in recent years, combined with an influx of new residents, many of them from the Greater Toronto Area looking for more affordable housing. Just last month, our community was once again ranked as one of the top 3 cities to buy real estate in Canada,” says Kevin Finney, Brantford’s Director of Economic Development and Tourism.
Brantford was ranked 31st on the same report card last year and the ranking is a weighted average based on a number of factors including population, employment and unemployment rates.
The top 10 include:
- Brantford, ON
- Kitchener, ON
- Quebec City, QC
- Regina, SK
- Guelph, ON
