construction supervisor reviews work site

Brantford began the year on pace to set new construction activity records with 406 building permits issued in the first quarter totaling $187 million in construction value. Permits and total permit values for January, February, and March of 2023 respectively were 92 permits (construction valued at $24 million), 156 permits (construction valued at $81 million), and 158 permits (construction valued at $82 million).

When comparing to a total of 1,508 permits with a combined construction value of $472 million in 2022, the trend of the first three months in 2023 indicates a very strong start indeed.

Of note are residential permits issued to Empire Communities, Losani Homes, ShellBrant Developments, and LIV.  In addition, 47 permits for accessory unit dwellings (those added to existing dwellings) were issued.

Further highlights are as follows. Brantford General Hospital received permits for nearly $10 million. A new long-term care home on Lynden Road was issued a $2 million permit. An industrial development on Fen Ridge Court received a $1.9 permit for a spec industrial building.  A full service restaurant on Lynden Road received a $400,000 permit.
