October was Manufacturing Month and the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie and community partners, including the City of Brantford and local school boards, coordinated a slate of activities to celebrate manufacturing in the area. These activities include student tours of select area companies, producing an engaging “We Make It Here” video and holding a Manufacturing Appreciation Breakfast.
This is the fourth year for the tours, which were created as a way to inform students about career opportunities in the Grand Erie region’s No. 1 industry. Over 250 Grade 10 students toured 18 area companies in Brantford, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk. Brantford companies participating in the tours included Bowman Precision Tooling, GIZEH Packaging, Hematite, Mott Manufacturing and Patriot Forge.
This year’s iteration of the “We Make It Here” video was previewed at the Appreciation Breakfast, which took place October 30th at the Arlington Hotel in Paris. Companies featured in the Brantford video included Stone Straw, Patriot Forge and Apotex Pharmachem. Schools and employment services can use the videos to provide students and job seekers a glimpse of today’s modern manufacturing and inform them of the industry’s career pathways.
