It can be difficult to integrate into a new culture and a new workplace, especially when language is a barrier. To support education for all people working in the food and beverage manufacturing industry, Food Processing Skills Canada has developed Succeeding at Work Language Stream.
Succeeding at Work Language Stream is breaking down learning and career development barriers with upskilling for employees in their language of choice. This training, which is valued at over $23,000 per person, is teaching the fundamentals of Canadian workplace cultures, emotional intelligence, food safety and technical skills.
Increased food safety and workplace safety regulations coupled with new COVID-19 protocols requires employers to upskill and reskill their workforce rapidly. With a large immigrant workforce, food industry employers must ensure non-English speaking employees fully comprehend their job requirements, safety information, and changes to protocols. Lack of comprehension may result in these individuals being sidelined and not able to achieve career advancement due to the additional effort in keeping them informed. This is an industry issue across Canada that is especially prevalent in Ontario — home to the largest number of food and beverage processing businesses and a destination for immigrants and New Canadians.
Designed for new Canadians
This exciting new program is assisting Ontario employers with multilingual training for employees eligible to work in Canada. After all, the food industry is an incredibly vibrant and diverse employing more immigrants than any other manufacturing sector.
Training is available in the following languages: Punjabi, Tagalog, Russian, French, Spanish, Chinese and English.
